Removing juice stains from carpets and rugs can be quite difficult. In today’s article we have shared some simple tips that will maximise your chances of removing juice stains by yourself without any professional help.
New Juice Stains
- Juice stains that are relatively new and still wet are much easier to clear and remove. Start by extracting as much of the spilled juice as you can from the carpet.
- Use a paper bag, thin towel, or a clean sponge to absorb as much fluid as possible. You can also use a Shopvac for this purpose.
- Once you have absorbed the spilled juice as much as possible, pour some cold water on the stain to dilute it. Don’t pour hot water as it will only deepen the stain and make it harder to remove.
- Dry the affected area and pour hot water on it again. Then repeat the drying process using towels or Shopvac. Keep doing this until the juice stain is completely gone.
If the above steps fail to remove juice stains completely, pour some salt and water on the affected area and leave it overnight. Vacuum the dried salt next morning. It would have absorbed most of remaining colour from stain.
Existing Juice Stains
- Dried juice stains are a lot tougher to deal with. Depending on the fabric of carpet and severity of juice stain, there are many ways to clean them.
- Juice stains are usually acidic in nature. Therefore, the easiest and most effective method to remove juice spill is to apply an alkaline solution.
- Carpet Steam Cleaning Adelaide Cheap Carpet Cleaning in Adelaide experts recommend vinegar for removing juice stains. You can also use ammonia, which is much less acidic than vinegar.
- Combine one part of ammonia or vinegar with eight parts of water to create an alkaline solution. Now blot the stain using a rag cloth soaked in this solution.
- Make sure that the carpet fabric doesn’t react adversely towards this solution by pouring a small amount on a hidden part.
- Avoid rubbing the cloth too rigorously as it will fray the fibres of the carpet.
- Wipe and dry the affected area to see if stain is completely removed. If not, repeat the above steps again.
Residue Juice Stains
- If some part of the juice stain is still visible after applying our above tips, follow the steps given below to get rid of residue juice stains.
- Mix three parts of clean water with one part of baking soda and stir the mixture properly until you get a thick paste. Cover the entire residue stain with this paste.
- Vacuum off the paste once it has dried. Repeat these steps until the residue juice stain is removed completely.
- Vinegar, ammonia, and baking soda are effective in removing juice stains. But they are even more effective in damaging fibres of the carpet. So you need to make sure they are washed off properly.
- Rinse the affected area with clean water and dry it using paper towel or Shop Vac. You can also use dry vacuum cleaners to speed up the drying process. Repeat these steps until you think the alkaline solution has been totally extracted.
Note: Don’t use vinegar or ammonia based solutions on woollen carpets and oriental rugs. They have delicate fabrics which require professional care. Always test the cleaning solution on a small hidden part of the carpet first.
